Tallow Balm

A rich, deeply nourishing skin balm made with rendered beef tallow — just a few clean ingredients, nothing artificial.

Tallow Balm is a small-batch moisturizer made the way skincare used to be made — with real, recognizable ingredients and nothing your skin doesn't need. It's built on beef tallow that I render myself, blended with jojoba oil and, depending on the variety, vitamin E oil and real essential oils. No fillers, no synthetic fragrance, no preservatives, no water.

Tallow is one of the most skin-compatible fats in existence — structurally similar to the oils our skin naturally produces. It absorbs well, locks in moisture without clogging pores, and leaves skin feeling nourished rather than coated. A little goes a long way.

Why you'll love it

  • Deep, lasting moisture without a greasy residue
  • 2–4 clean ingredients depending on the scent — nothing hard to pronounce
  • Works on hands, face, elbows, heels, and everything in between
  • No synthetic fragrance, no water, no fillers
  • Multiple scents including options safe for babies and sensitive skin
  • Small-batch, rendered and blended in-house
  • A little goes a long way

Choose your scent

  • Unscented — tallow and jojoba oil, nothing else. Safe for all ages, including babies. No essential oils or botanicals added. The purest option.
  • Calendula — tallow, calendula-infused jojoba oil, and vitamin E oil. Safe for all ages, including babies. Calendula adds a gentle, skin-soothing quality — great for sensitive or reactive skin.
  • Vanilla — tallow infused with real vanilla beans, jojoba oil, and vitamin E oil. Safe for ages 6+ months. A warm, subtle scent with no essential oils added.
  • Vanilla & Orange — tallow infused with vanilla beans, jojoba oil, vitamin E oil, and sweet orange essential oil. Recommended for ages 2+. Note: sweet orange essential oil may increase sun sensitivity — avoid applying to areas exposed to direct sunlight.
  • Lavender & Cedarwood — tallow, jojoba oil, vitamin E oil, lavender essential oil, and cedarwood essential oil. Recommended for ages 2+. A calm, grounding blend — one of our most popular.

How to use

Scoop a small amount with clean, dry fingers. Warm between your fingertips until it softens and melts, then massage into skin wherever you want lasting moisture. A little goes a long way — start with less than you think you need.

What's inside

Beef suet tallow (rendered by me) — naturally rich in fatty acids that closely mirror the skin's own lipid profile. Absorbs well, supports the skin barrier, and provides deep, lasting moisture.

Jojoba oil — technically a liquid wax, jojoba closely mimics the skin's natural sebum. Lightweight, non-comedogenic, and excellent for all skin types. The Calendula variety uses jojoba that has been infused with calendula flowers for added skin-soothing benefits.

Vitamin E oil — a natural antioxidant that supports skin health and helps extend the shelf life of the balm. Included in all varieties except Unscented.

Essential oils (in Vanilla & Orange and Lavender & Cedarwood only) — real essential oils only, never synthetic fragrance.

What to expect

Because this balm is made with real ingredients and no stabilizers, texture and color may vary slightly from batch to batch. This is normal and does not affect quality or performance.

Tallow balm is solid at room temperature and softens quickly with the warmth of your fingertips. In warmer months or warmer environments, it may soften in the jar — if that happens, stir and refrigerate briefly to firm it back up.

Storage

Store sealed in a cool, dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Use clean, dry hands every time to keep the balm fresh. If it softens, stir and refrigerate to firm up.

FAQs

What is tallow and why is it good for skin?
Tallow is rendered beef fat — specifically beef suet, the fat surrounding the kidneys. It's one of the oldest skincare ingredients in existence, used long before modern moisturizers existed. What makes it special is its fatty acid profile: tallow is rich in oleic acid, palmitic acid, and stearic acid, which closely mirror the lipids found in human skin. This means it absorbs well, supports the skin barrier, and moisturizes deeply without sitting on top of the skin.
Which scent is right for me?
If you have sensitive skin or are buying for a baby, start with Unscented or Calendula — both are free of essential oils and safe for all ages. If you want something with a light, warm scent and no essential oils, Vanilla is a beautiful option (safe for 6+ months). For a full-scent experience, Lavender & Cedarwood is calming and grounding, and Vanilla & Orange is bright and warm — both recommended for ages 2+.
Is this safe for babies?
Unscented and Calendula are safe for all ages, including newborns. Vanilla is safe for ages 6+ months. The Vanilla & Orange and Lavender & Cedarwood varieties contain essential oils and are recommended for ages 2+.
Will it clog my pores?
Tallow is non-comedogenic for most people — meaning it doesn't clog pores. Because its fatty acid profile is so similar to human skin, it tends to absorb rather than sit on top. That said, everyone's skin is different. If you're trying tallow for the first time, we always recommend a small patch test first.
Can I use this on my face?
Yes — tallow balm is excellent for the face. Many people use it as a daily moisturizer, a night treatment, or a spot treatment for dry patches. Start with a very small amount and warm it fully between your fingertips before applying.
Why does the texture vary?
Because this balm is made in small batches with real, unprocessed ingredients and no stabilizers, slight variations in texture and color are completely normal. Temperature affects the consistency — it will be firmer in cool environments and softer in warm ones. This is a sign of real ingredients, not a quality issue.
How long does one jar last?
It depends on how you use it, but most customers find a 3.3 oz jar lasts several weeks to a couple of months with daily use. Because tallow balm is so concentrated, a very small amount goes a long way — especially compared to water-based lotions where you have to use much more to get the same effect.
Does the Vanilla & Orange variety really increase sun sensitivity?
Sweet orange essential oil is a citrus oil, and citrus oils are known to be photosensitizing — meaning they can increase your skin's sensitivity to UV rays when applied to areas exposed to direct sunlight. This is a well-documented property of citrus essential oils. To enjoy the Vanilla & Orange balm safely, simply apply it to areas that won't be in direct sun, or use it in the evening.
How should I store it?
Store sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct heat and sunlight. Always use clean, dry hands when scooping to keep the balm fresh. If it softens in warm weather, stir and refrigerate briefly to firm it back up — this won't affect quality.

Because this product is made in small batches with real ingredients, slight variations in color and texture are normal and expected.
